Meet the King

Took a drive down to Penang last Friday (16th May 2009) and stop by a rest area. Had another chance to use my new lens to shoot this White Collared Kingfisher when divemuster spotted it at the place we were parked. A little soft but still pretty good since they were taken hand held. Just needs more practise.

Back view of the fella
Front view of the fella

View of the fella with a lizard which it magically cought in mid-air. Don't ask me how, we just saw it flew and next we know the little fella was in its beak.

The sun was at the back of the kingfisher so I over exposed the shot +2 to try and get these two photos.

Here is one at 100% crop.
{You know its lucky it was a lizard. Imagine if it was a praying mantis! Then there would really be something to laugh about [right mogs] :P }

Wuuu... check out the pics man. Bird's got both tail & lizard. Very nice. Poor lizard tho. Looks like one of those prisoners in medieval times under lock & stock.

Nice nice... How did it get both the lizard and the tail? Man, it sucks to be the lizard.

My guess is that the lizard was caught in a U-shape and it "disengaged" (forgot the actual term) the tail hence the tail if further up the bird's beak and poor fella wondering why breaking off the tail didn't work.

The lizard looks to be still alive even after being whacked a couple times on the tree. Here it just looks like the lizard is hanging out with the kingfisher lol.

For all we know they are both just acting. :P
