Sights of Malacca

Just some random shots taken in Malacca during Chinese New Year near where I stayed. As far back as i can remember, I can only recall one or two times visiting some of the attractions in Malacca. Since this time we stayed in the area of Malacca Raya, I took the opportunity to see how things had changed since I last visited the area.

The following was taken on Federal Territory Day. Decided to put my new GPS to the test and see where it can take me. Happy to say I didn't get lost for sure ;)

Malaysia Eye At Night

It was 3 days just before the New Year, everyone was preparing to welcome in 2008. A gang of three:- dt, ecinreb and me decided to visit the Eye which was supposedly schedule for closure. Eventually it was announced that they will extend the duration. Below are some of the shots taken

We were supposed to take a sunset ride on the wheel but eventually changed our minds when we saw the huge queue of people there. The queue was further back then what my 17 mm could take in. Well note to self, next time go on a weekday for the ride.

Since we weren't able to take the ride we settled on the next best thing to shoot more pictures. Luckily for us the light show started early. They used fountains as screen for the laser lights.

The laser could even form 3D structures. This seems to be the Telekom building. Missed a couple of other building that was created. You can see more of the eye at truth and beauty

The Other End of Mumbai

Despite being the financial center of India and also where Bollywood is situated, Mumbai slums have always existed. Statistically 60% of Mumbai's population are slum dwellers.They live constantly with water shortages, to no sewage or solid waste facilities.

The contrast of the rich and poor were obvious to a point where it stood out throughout my trip. There were people sleeping on the roads, children begging along the busy roads and even families sitting by the roadside having a meal.

Colorful India

One thing I notice about India was that they had really colorful posters
much so that the poster looks so much newer then the buildings they were placed.

Next up the other side of India

From Singapore To India (Mumbai)

Well there's still more pictures of Singapore but I think I'll post that a little later.
So onward to India. When we finally reached Mumbai, it was already in the wee hours of the morning.There wasn't much cars on the street and most of the traffic lights weren't working.
We were booked at Hilton Towers Mumbai hotel.

The next morning after a good breakfast we decided to walk around in front of the hotel.
From the picture it sure does look hazy, but what the people there told us is that it was fog.

Later after our meetings and lunch, I took opportunity to shoot the Gateway of India which was so happened to be nearby the hotel we had lunch at. Unfortunately the monument was undergoing some beautification work. It was built to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary in December 1911 so say the print on the monument :)

Next, we were taken to a place called Crawford Market which is one of the most famous market there. There were actually some better shopping malls, but we didn't knew that at that time. Still was a pretty interesting adventure. Theres more then 13.3 million people in Mumbai alone. So wasn't too surprising that you could see loads of people everywhere.

Singapore 2007

It was early this month when I had to make a business trip to Singapore and India.
Singapore, I've been to numerous times but India,
now thats an opportunity to see how things are run there.

As usual the trip starts out at KLIA where we were scheduled to leave late in the afternoon.
Took the chance of snapping the SIA plane that was going to fly us to Singapore. Notice the smile on it ? :)

When we finally arrived and checked into our hotel, it was already dinner time.
Our hotel was as usual right smack in Orchard road right next door to Takashimaya.

There were lots of people everywhere and like every year Orchard road was lighted up for the big Christmas celebrations. Walking around, you would be able to find some street performer showcasing their musical talents.
One that caught our attention was this Chinese 'Pipa' Player.

Well I did say the place was lighted up didn't I?

Merry Christmas 2008

YES! Finally got my PC up and running.
A little late for the Christmas wishes but what the heck.

Bird Park 2007

Was back at the bird park earlier this month.
The mission was to get birds in flight.
Can't say I was fully successful though, but here are some of em.
